What an Environment Artist does at Criterion:

We are looking for creative, collaborative and passionate people to help us create beautiful, immersive worlds that enhance the game experience. We need your creative and technical skills and understanding of the world to build assets, shaders, and compositions that surround the player with breathtaking vistas.

You will report to the Environment Director alongside other artists, Level Designers and Technical Artists. The team operates a highly collaborative and iterative design process where all voices are valued and encouraged, in an environment that fosters growth and autonomy.

Our Environment Team is drawn to people with:

  • Experience creating high-quality 3D environments from concept art and photo reference
  • An eye for level layout and passion for scene dressing
  • Knowledge of production techniques including; high-low poly baking, modular asset creation, whiteboxing, physically based rendering and sculpting
  • Knowledge of 3D content creation and texturing tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Photoshop and Substance Painter/Designer
  • Traditional art skills, appreciation of composition, lighting, colour and detail
  • Experience creating open world games and understand tech limitations
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • Love of art and games
  • Passion for pushing visual quality and production techniques
  • Previous AAA game development experience

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs). 

PAY RANGES
*Connecticut (depending on location e.g., Stamford/Greenwich vs. Eastern Connecticut)*$104,400 - $144,200 USD (depending on experience)
*Virginia (depending on location e.g., Northern Virginia vs. Southwest Virginia)*$99,100 - $144,200 USD (depending on experience)

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.
In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
